Water; we sail on it, swim in it, bathe with it, consume it. Water truly is everywhere; still most take it for granted. Without water, your body would stop working properly. Water makes up more than half of your body weight and a person can’t survive for more than a few days without it. Why? Your body has lots of important jobs and it needs water to do many of them. Any fluid you drink will contain water, but pure water is always the best choices. Lots of foods contain water, too. Fruit contains quite a bit of water, which you could probably tell if you’ve ever bitten into a peach and felt the juices dripping down your chin. Take a look at watermelon, invariably we know how it got its name. Vegetables also contain a lot of water.
We know the importance of drinking water but why the hesitation in drinking it? The simple answer; water is boring? There are hundreds of more tempting elixirs on the shelves to choose from as a form of hydration. Many of them are loaded with sugars, preservatives and flavor enhancers. By simply adding a few slices of fruit, veggies and herbs, infused into our water makes for a flavorful experience and it looks appealing too. I cannot count the many times that I’ve been approached by people when they see me carrying around my infused water. They are intrigued and reminded about the importance of drinking water. This gives opportunity to share the vital need of water and suggest some cool recipes for them to try on their own. This emotionally charges us to drink more water as well as benefit from the nutrients, antioxidants and natural flavor enhancers given us through our fun creative blends; all without extra sugar or calories. Here are just a few additional benefits to infused water.
- Tummy gets full so you’re less likely to over eat
- Improves mood and brain activity
- Helps kidneys to function properly
- Aids organ process when you are sweating
- Helps body release fat cells
- Keeps your digestion active
- Reduces muscle fatigue
- Helps replenish skin cells
Since water is so important, you might wonder if you’re drinking enough. There is no magic amount of water you need to drink every day, especially if you enjoy physical activities on a nice warm sunny day. Your body has been designed to help you stay properly hydrated by regulating the amount of water in your system. Remembering, the age old “eight glasses of water a day” works great for some people, but not all of us. Instead, we have supplied something a little bit more customized to your body type.
Follow the “Water Rule” by taking your weight (in pounds) divided by two: ___ lbs./2 =___ ounces a day. For example, take a 120 lb. female. Divide her weight by two, and you have sixty ounces of water a day.
